I just made a patch that allows to place transient windows as any
other windows. You can get it with the current source
distribution, tomorrow's snapshot or with the upcoming 2.4.1
release (within a few weeks).
If it does not work out of the box for the applications in
question, try
Style * NoTransientPPosition
and if that does not help try
Style * NoTransientPPosition, NoTransientUSPosition
