Ah, good; this is exactly what I meant when I said we could "add a check
into configure".

Now, is our requirement for xpm the same as XEmacs' (looks like they
want at least 3.4f)? Do we need something later? Will an earlier
release work?

I can add this check for now and we can adjust later, I suppose.
