To go from X to commandline:
CTRL-ALT-F1 for the first "virtual" terminal, F2 for the second, etc.

To go from commandline to X:
ALT-F7 for the first "virtual" terminal, F8 for the second, etc.

(or is it CTRL-ALT-F7? I'm not on my console, so i can't doublecheck)
