I think that the following Python module can be useful
for that:

http://www.cojobo.net/~h_wendel/stuff/pyxdg-0.4.tar.gz

With this module and a few lines of python you can generte
an "elementary" GNOME2 menu for fvwm.

Also, you can take a look at:
