I think we both are missing something, the actual result of this
test in older fvwm2 releases. I think it might have been:

[FVWM][Echo]: "I got: " test

but right now I can't prove that.

I think it would be reasonable for missing arguments to a function
to resolve to nothing rather than the symbolic notation for the
argument.
