Well, it also ought to be configurable to a significant extent,
consistent with it being small.

One of the things which I find useful is that it's *documented*. I
had a look at WindowMaker recently, but just couldn't get it to be
usable. There is documentation, but it seems out of date. I
understand there's an extra program that I could have got, which would
have made the configuration point and drool, but there was no clear
advice to do that. So I'm back with my comfortable fvwm2 setup.

fvwm2's documentation and configuration may be a bit weighty, but it's
all there.
