Andy,
If I follow what you're saying, you're seeing black borders around individual
GUI components, such as text boxes, or push buttons, within the application.
The window manager shouldn't be affecting this at all. This should be a
function of whatever GUI library that particular application is using, such as
Motif, for example.
The only things I can figure that would be different between your use of olwm
and fvwm* are:
1. You are running with different GUI library (a different Motif library?)
2. You are on a different computer which then entails 1.
3. Your X resources in your .Xdefaults have changed.
Whatever the case, modifying your X resources for the apartiuclar GUI
library(ies) you are using could eliminate the problem.
