Lyman,

The Tcl/Tk package from Sun has a handy little mini-application in it
called `tcolor'. It's probably in a directory like
/usr/lib/tk4.1/demos. If you have a commercial U**x, it may well be
on /opt or /usr/local instead.

You can preview colors quite well. The application also reads the
rgb.txt database distributed with X11, so you can also find out what
CornflowerBlue looks like on your display. By default, the
application starts up in H-S-V mode. Use the Menu to change to R-G-B
mode.

Once you find a colour that you like, find the label that contains the
colour spec, and copy this colour code into the appropriate place in
your .fvwmrc using your editor of choice.

You can also use these colournames in fvwm! You may well find that
Gray50 is easier to understand than, say #7f7c7f7c7f7c.
