I wouldn't remove them, but just dim them, like the menu entries (I haven't
see any dimmed menu entries lately, but I usually keep these back doors
wide open, anyway)

why not just have the actual maximize/minimize functions do nothing, if
maximize/minimize is forbidden in the MwmHints and the hints are to be
obeyed.
