I agree entirely. I compile programs for 6 platforms (SunOS, Solaris, OSF,
HPUX, AIX, Ultrix) and Autoconf'd programs, both X and non-X, almost always
compile straight out of the tar file for all platforms. The same cannot be
said for programs that use Imake.
