I don't have an alpha, but I do have a DECstation running Ultrix, and I
just wanted to let you know that my icons are working just fine, in case
that gives you some encouragement. I say this because Ultrix (even 4.3,
which is where we stopped upgrading), is pretty hokey. Lots of stuff
doesn't work right. The Alpha boxes run OSF or something, don't they?
I would hope that a lot of the time that DEC didn't spend fixing up
Ultrix was spent getting OSF right, so I doubt that it's your
workstation.
Why did you compile it without m4? I compiled everything in, and I have
found that m4 is semi-handy. Maybe if you re-build it, you will find
some detail that you inadvertently skipped the first time. That's all I
can say.
